What Are We Spending on Home Improvements?

Many of us spend money on improving our homes, and with great reason – your home should be a sanctuary that you feel relaxed in and proud to share with others. In the latest blog post from Boss Construction, we take a look at how much homeowners are spending on improving their homes.

Research conducted by online estate agents Tepilo, state that UK homeowners have spent £41 billion in the last five years on home improvements, equivalent to around £1,875 per household.

Most people consider making changes to their home when thinking of selling, but the cost should be offset by the increased value of the property.

Most Popular Improvements

Research from Tepilo states that 39% of homeowners are keen to carry out redecoration of their homes to improve its aesthetic appeal. 28% of people stated that they wanted to have a new kitchen installed and a smaller percentage of 6% had grander ideas of building a home gym or cinema.

According to NAEA Propertymark, the following home improvements are the best for improving the value of your home:

Bathroom

Updates to your bathroom do not have to be costly to make a big difference. Re-grouting and removing limescale can make a big impact and may be done in a day. Additionally, updating old taps can significantly improve the look of your bathroom suite.

Garden

Your garden can set the precedent for the inside of your home, so smartening up the appearance of this space can make a big difference. Changes to make may include, clearing pathways, ensuring the grass is freshly cut, and cutting back overgrown bushes or trees.
